Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise designed to improve
and maintain physical fitness, whilst promoting a positive and relaxed mental attitude. It originates from China and was initially
developed as a martial art, but now is more widely practiced for its many benefits to health.
There are many advantages
of regular tai chi practice:- Through developing body awareness, we are able to improve co-ordination, posture and
sense of balance. The movements are performed slowly and gently, with purpose and definition, but without force or strain.
This enables the joints to open, muscles and tendons strengthen whilst increasing suppleness, and we become more
relaxed.
Research:- Tai Chi has been shown to lower blood pressure, improve balance, relieve painful
joints, increase bone density, and enhance immune function.
Free Taster Session Tues 14 September, 2010. 6.30 - 7.30pm Broadway
United Reformed Church Hall
A no-obligation introduction
to this ancient Chinese exercise and meditation. There will be a talk and demonstration followed by a chance to have
a go at some of the foundation exercises and the beautiful 'Twining Silk' technique. Beginners'
class will commence the following week.
Classes:-
Regular classes are held on Tuesdays at:
Bourton Leisure Centre, Bourton on the Water. 10.30am - 12.00pm - Mixed ability
Broadway United Reformed Church Hall 6.30 - 7.30pm - Beginners. 6.30
- 8.00pm - Advanced
A note for Beginners -
Much of the class is devoted to the development and refinement of the tai chi principles and the fundamental movements.
As a new beginner you should be able to join in and follow these movements fairly easily. However, please be aware that
even some of the basics can seem a little complicated at first, and it may take a few weeks before you feel your co-ordination
improving. If you can stay relaxed and just enjoy your practice, your tai chi will come together more quickly.
I am also available for talks and demonstrations,
and can provide individual or small group tuition by arrangement.
